How does it work?
STEP 1 – AutoRSS Setup
The autoblog plugin installed on Living Websites was developed by premium.wpmudev.org. It periodically looks at an your RSS feed and decides whether to create a post or not based on whether it’s created a similar post before. This prevents replication.
There are many settings within the autoblog plugin which might be of interest to you. Click the screenshot thumbnail to the right to see them in detail.
You can change things like which category the post is made in, add extra tags, etc.
This is a Superadmin feature, so if you would like to take advantage of that, I’ll do the configuration for you if you tell us what you want.
STEP 2 Posting the content
The autoblogging software creates posts on the targeted MicroSite when appropriate. Along with these posts, the plugin also saves some WordPress ‘custom fields’ which save a reference to the original feed, and also the original RSS feed.
STEP 3 Displaying the content
In the theme, we now have a new feature in the display layer. When WordPress displays any post, it first checks to see whether there is a custom field value set for ‘original_feed’. If there is, then the theme knows that the post was generated by AutoRSS, and needs to be credited accordingly.
The theme then retrieves the correct information and adds a linked image of size 600px by 100px.
For instance, The image accosiated with the skipedia RSS feed, http://www.skipedia.co.uk/wp/feed/ can be seen here. http://living-websites-2.eu/public/AutoRSS/autoblog_headers/skipedia.png
You are welcome to provide your own 600x100px image as png, jpg or animated gif if you would like.
The final HTML code generated by the theme is a perfectly SEO’d, large and clear link to the original content which opens in a new window eg:
Any RSS feed can be added to 1 microsite at a time. The cost per month depends on the profile of the microsite, but starts at as little as £5 per month (based on a recurring PayPal Subscription)
